Extracurricular Activities

Hello All!  I have neglected this blog long enough.  And I think I am suffering because it it.  Blogging is a type therapy for me.

Here are my extra curricular activities of late:

PTF President – I was elected this year for our school’s version of PTA.  As a uber-organizer, we have already started our planning and will meet with the Principal this week.

Tea Party Volunteer – My role was quite a bit more for the initial Tea Party Event on April 15th, but due to a  major work project, I have had to pull back.  So now I am helping maintain the website and doing video work.  If anyone has not heared of the Tea Party Movement, it is a grass roots effort started to let our elected officials know we are unhappy with their spending habits of our money and our children’s money.  It has expanded beyond that to our condern of not following the Constitution and the expanding goverenment.   The group I am involved with is non-partisian and very grass roots.  (More blogging on my involvement and going ons in the future.)

Next week I am a VBS volunteer at my parent’s church.  My Dad and I will be “herding”  our group of kids to each activity.  It should be a growing experience for me!

My goal is to blog at least once a week, so please come back!

Now just trepidation of ref’ing

This Saturday was much better.  The teams that I ref’ed were not aggresive, so it was easier to keep things in line.  Two areas to improve on – calling walking and bumping.  But with only one more game to ref – not to much to worry about.  Unless I get an aggressive team.

I have learned something about myself.  I do better when I am challenged to step up.  This game they put me with a teenage boy who had only ref’ed 3 games.  He said he did not want to do the jump ball or prayer.  Not my first choice to do, but fine by me.  Put me in charge, I got it!

So just as we are all getting in the groove, the girls are playing better, we are on our last game.

Paying attention just adds to the gift….

So before Christmas I was telling my anti-MIL that they should make cilantro soap since I love the smell. Little did I know that my comment would inspire her to add an additional scent to her soap making endeavor before Christmas. So I now have cilantro scented soap, with a real cilantro leaf inside!!

And to top it all off, she threw in plumeria to boot!!!

The X in X-mas

I learned this today during a converstion in the car with the family.

The use of “Χ,” derived from Chi, the Greek alphabet initial, as an abbreviation for Christ (most commonly in the abbreviation “Χmas”) is often misinterpreted as a modern secularization of the term. Thus understood, the centuries-old English word Χmas, is actually a shortened form of CHmas, which is, itself, a shortened form for Christmas. In fact, the use of “Χ” to represent the full word goes back to the earliest days of Greek Christianity.

The Status of Enthusiast Union

This year the game with the Aggies has been moved from Friday to the real Thanksgiving day.  It has been this way in the past, but not since I have been going.  We kindly requested my anti-MIL to serve dinner at 11 am so that we could be in the car by 12:01.

The game should be good since we play the Aggies, who were beat by Baylor.  (ie major suckage.)  But there may be rain.  Bleh.
