Fundraiser for Project Valour-IT

Project Valour-IT supplies voice-controlled laptops and other technology that supports the physical and psychological recovery of wounded veterans.  Each year we lead the milblogs and other bloggers in spreading the word about the project and encouraging donations.  Teams are divided by service branch in a spirit of fun competition, though all the money goes to the same place.  Please click here and here to learn more about this amazing project and the bloggers who make it happen!

Can you imagine not being able to use your computer?  What a great way to help those who can’t.

Dear Mr. Obama

Two Items of interest related to Operation Enduring Support

1.  Absolutely no media coverage.

2.  Brought to my attention by Greg Knapp on the radio today.  Everyone was very friendly and did not even complain about there only being 3 available porta-potties.

Supporting the troops in Dallas

My family and in-laws attended Operation Enduring Support on Saturday.  It was a great experience.

We rode the Dart train in to avoid parking hassles and traffic.  KLIF provided a shuttle from the train station to Flag Pole Hill.  It worked out well.

When we arrived they were playing music.  We gave our donations to the troops and found a place to sit.  The girls did some crafts to send to the soldiers.  The music was good and the time went by fast.  A Marine Mom had a binder for us to sign.  They had posters and aprons to sign.  All going to the troops.

My mother in law had made some Texas dresses and they were perfect for the event.  We did not realize what a hit they would be.  People stopped us to take their pictures and to ask where we got them.

At 5 pm, Ankarlo and Knapp (Talk show hosts) talked about how great it was to see so many people.  They had a few politicians speak and two Marine wifes. One was so emotional all she could say was “Thank You!”  Several times we chanted “U! S! A!”. We sang “God Bless America”, the National Anthem, and said the Pledge of Allegance.

Around 5:30 everyone quietly planted thier flags on the hill.  Then a 21 gun salute.  They taped the whole thing and will be playing it on the Armed Forces TV station over seas.

I am sure there are details that I missed, but it was a great event.  I can not tell you how many people were there, but I would guess 1000.

I am so proud to be an American.

Just Thinkin’ (Darrell’s Weekly Column)

Don’t Let it Happen Again!!

I  hope you don’t miss too many shows but if you missed part of Friday’s program then you didn’t hear a few calls that would have opened your eyes!  Big time!  It started with a man who was convinced that much of the public outcry about the murder of Nicholas Berg was a waste of time and that people like me are responsible for whipping the “people into a frenzy.”  As soon as I dismantled that guy’s position another gentleman called with the same opinion and then another and another.  Each was convinced that America is not in danger of a terrorist threat and the only reason we believe it is because talk radio is brainwashing the masses.  How split-a-gut funny is that nonsense!!?

America, they say, is not at risk of another attack.  Lord knows when those goofballs see the bombs falling on their neighborhood, I and other proud Americans, will probably get stuck with the task of pulling them from their buring houses and offering aid, shelter and transportation out of the war zone–the same zone that will go up while they continue to live in their precious little dream worlds!

After 911 I read thousands of bumper stickers, flags and homemade signs from citizens who were fed up.  One of the most dominant slogans on those signs was, “We will never forget!”  Bull.  We forgot within a year.  We forgot when the nation tetered on the brink of war and we most definitely forgot as our soldiers marched off to war.

Listener William sent me a note shortly before our Operation Enduring Support rally.  It reads,

Mr. Revere,

Relax.  The British aren’t coming.  They are our friends.  Why do you insist on maligning and resisting the efforts of the enlightened ones?  They are here to help.  It is YOU, Mr. Revere, YOU are the subversive one with all your venomous talk that incites the people.

Let your horse rest.  Come stay by the warm fire and sleep peacefully.  Tomorrow you will feel much better.  Tomorrow you will understand if only you quit resisting.

You are getting sleepy, sleepy, sleepy….

When I count to three and snap my fingers, you will be under my complete control.”

We can smile at the lunacy of such a letter but conditions in this country are at the exact same stage today.  Get this, and get it well–there are terrorists who would kill you in a heartbeat if they thought they would get away with it.  Indeed, they are plotting your demise even as I type this.  WAKE UP!!  We can not afford to become complacent ever again.  Not only must we remain on alert–we also need to duplicate our love of country to everyone we meet.  We must sow the love of God and country into as many people’s hearts as we possibly can so when the battle comes to these shores–and it is coming–we will be prepared for it.

This is one of the reasons we presented Operation Enduring Support.  It is always more than just a cheering convention.  This time, we did a little cheering but we also filled up two moving trucks with supplies for our troops, the children created arts and crafts for the soldiers, families wrote thank you letters and created video postcards.  Politicians spoke and singers sang and it was nice.  But, more than all of that, several thousand Americans realized they were not alone.  Flag Pole Hill was adorned with the flags in every direction as caring citizens draped the landscape.  It was a tangible outpouring for those who fight to defeat terrorism and we must NOT FORGET!

I am thankful for the grassroots groups, individuals and families who said they would not forget A) our troops and B) the pain they felt from 911.  The moment they (we) do, is the day the pain will make a return engagement.
