The X in X-mas

I learned this today during a converstion in the car with the family.

The use of “Χ,” derived from Chi, the Greek alphabet initial, as an abbreviation for Christ (most commonly in the abbreviation “Χmas”) is often misinterpreted as a modern secularization of the term. Thus understood, the centuries-old English word Χmas, is actually a shortened form of CHmas, which is, itself, a shortened form for Christmas. In fact, the use of “Χ” to represent the full word goes back to the earliest days of Greek Christianity.

The Status of Enthusiast Union

This year the game with the Aggies has been moved from Friday to the real Thanksgiving day.  It has been this way in the past, but not since I have been going.  We kindly requested my anti-MIL to serve dinner at 11 am so that we could be in the car by 12:01.

The game should be good since we play the Aggies, who were beat by Baylor.  (ie major suckage.)  But there may be rain.  Bleh.

The Next Head Coach

Texas has announced that Muschamp will be the head coach after Mack Brown leaves.  Muschamp has been our Defensive Coordinator for this season.  He has done a great job with our defense and it (IMO) one of the main reasons we are ranked third.  He is known for being tough on the players, but also for letting them know when they have done well.  He gets fired up during the games and chest bust players.

He has done well coaching at LSU and Auburn and Texas made him the highest paid assistant coach in the Big 12.  From what I have seen, he has earned his pay.

Because he is so good, there has been a risk of him leaving for a head coaching job elsewhere.  Who wouldn’t want him when he bring success?  Rumor is Tennesse approached him.  Either way, it was smart of Texas to offer him a HUGE raise with the contract to become head coach.

The cherry on top?  His wife and sons love Austin.  They even said that if he left, he would be going alone.

This is a good day for Texas and a long bright future for Texas football.

The story even made the New York Times.  Another article here.  Even better article here.  And more in his Wikipedia entry.

To Prepare for Friday

This Friday Hubby and I as Youngest’s Room Parents will be organizing a craft/dessert for 14 2nd graders.  To prepare for this we made the dessert for our Sunday Family Dinner.  Both Grandmas, the girls, Hubby and I  practiced.  We discovered what miscellaneous tools we will need, how to best assemble, and that a make shift icing bag is better than toothpicks.

Here is what we are going to make.  Pictures of the Friday results promised to be posted.

Fundraiser for Project Valour-IT

Project Valour-IT supplies voice-controlled laptops and other technology that supports the physical and psychological recovery of wounded veterans.  Each year we lead the milblogs and other bloggers in spreading the word about the project and encouraging donations.  Teams are divided by service branch in a spirit of fun competition, though all the money goes to the same place.  Please click here and here to learn more about this amazing project and the bloggers who make it happen!

Can you imagine not being able to use your computer?  What a great way to help those who can’t.

Happiness belongs to those who are sufficient unto themselves. For all external sources of happiness and pleasure are, by their very nature, highly uncertain, precarious, ephemeral and subject to chance. ~Arthur Schopenhauer

Every Parents Christmas Dream

I dream of a Christmas that does not require 20 minutes per toy and 4 trashbags to free the toys from the confines of the evil packaging.  Looks like my dream may come true!

The Frustration-Free Package is recyclable and comes without excess packaging materials such as hard plastic clamshell casings, plastic bindings, and wire ties. It’s designed to be opened without the use of a box cutter or knife and will protect your product just as well as traditional packaging (on the right). Products with Frustration-Free Packaging can frequently be shipped in their own boxes, without an additional shipping box.

Amazon is a smart retailer!  I will be shopping there this year!

Do you like….

Youngest:  Do you like mah croons?

Me:  Macaroons?  If I ever had them, I don’t remember.

Youngest:  Did you know you could make them with 30 finely crushed saltine crackers?

She then went on to count 30 and show me how much it would be.

One step from the edge

Today I don’t have time to worry about where this country is heading.

I have a defiant daughter who is bringing me to tears.

I have more things to do than hours in the day.

Wah!
