    I once spent an hour stuck in a elevator at midnight. I was working weird hours to update a computer system during off hours, and I called home to let Joyce know I was headed home.

    I got on the elevator and went down a couple of floors when it suddenly stopped. After pressing the alarm button repeatedly, finally I pried the elevator doors open and found I was between floors. When I let go of the doors, they slammed shut and the car started moving — headed up. I pushed all the floor buttons and jumped off at the first floor it stopped at.

    I walked down the stairs and, when I got to the lobby, I went by the security desk and thanked the security guard for his attentiveness. My sarcasm was lost on him.
